At United Cerebral Palsy of Central Minnesota, we are not just about caring for people with Cerebral Palsy. We work to help all people with a disease or disability live a life without limits. June is Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month where we bring light to the struggles many face with brain diseases.
More than 5 million people in the United States suffer from Alzheimer’s disease and 47 million people are living with dementia worldwide. Brain disease is an epidemic and many organizations are trying to do something about it. During the month of June, raising awareness and educating people about some of the world’s most prevalent brain diseases has been our paramount responsibility.
Ways You Can Help
In June, wearing purple can help others identify you as part of our movement to bring awareness. The Alzheimer’s Association has numerous ways to help all year round, including educational resources and donation options. The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America is hosting a nationwide tour bringing support and resources to those with the disease throughout the country.
You can also take matters into your own hands! If you know someone suffering from a brain disease, host a benefit in their honor to help with medical expenses. 15 million Americans provide unpaid care for people with dementia and you can help lessen the burden on those by pitching in. Otherwise, consider organizing a walk in which participants wear purple and bring educational resources to your area about how prevalent the problem is and what people can do to help.
Supporting United Cerebral Palsy is one way to support sufferers from brain diseases like Alzheimer’s, dementia, and cerebral palsy. Our organization works to help seniors stay in their homes as long as the would like to, providing modifications and support to enable sufferers to keep as much of their lives intact as possible. Join us in making a difference this June (and all year round) for Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month.
