Safety, Policies & Accessibility
What should I do if there’s an accident during my ride?

Make sure everyone is safe and call 911 if needed. Then report the incident through Lyft under “Report an accident or collision.” Lyft handles accident reviews and insurance matters directly.

How do I report unsafe behavior or a safety concern?

Use the Lyft app or the Help Center under “Report a safety incident or citation.” This covers unsafe driving, inappropriate behavior, or misconduct. In emergencies, call 911 first.

What protections exist for riders with disabilities or service animals?

Lyft’s Accessibility and anti-discrimination policies require drivers to accommodate service animals and prohibit discrimination. Riders can report violations directly to Lyft.

Who do I contact for problems?
  • App issues, accidents, safety concerns → Lyft Support
  • Lyft Pass eligibility, ride limits, or program questions → ConnectAbility of MN
Profile and Account
How do I create a Lyft account?

Download the Lyft app (iPhone or Android), then open it and enter your phone number, email, and a photo to get started. Lyft will text you a verification code to confirm your identity — just enter that and follow the app prompts to complete setup.

How do I edit my profile or account info?

In the Lyft app, tap your profile icon, then go to Account or Personal info. From there you can update your name, photo, email, or other account details.

How do I change my phone number on my Lyft account?

Open the Lyft app, go to your profile/settings, and look for Phone number or Personal info. Follow the prompts to update your number — Lyft may send a text code to verify the new one.

How can people with accessibility needs log in using assistive tools?

Lyft supports accessibility features:

  • Google TalkBack on Android lets visually impaired users navigate the app and create or log into accounts.

  • VoiceOver on iOS does the same on Apple devices.
These help riders with screen readers interact with Lyft.

What is rider verification?

Lyft may ask riders to verify their identity for safety reasons — for example, if a flagged account pops up or a teen account is created. This can include verifying your phone or submitting a photo.

Charges and Payment Methods
How do I add or update my payment info?
  1. Open the Lyft app

  2. Tap your profile or Wallet icon

  3. Select Payment

  4. Add a new card or edit an existing one

Lyft may ask you to verify new payment info with a small authorization charge or a text code. This helps keep your account secure.

Will ConnectAbility of MN reimburse me for Lyft fees or charges?

ConnectAbility of MN does not reimburse riders for Lyft charges, including:

  • Cancellation fees

  • No-show fees

  • Charges outside of Lyft Pass coverage

  • Tips

  • Extra costs beyond the approved ride amount

Lyft Pass only covers eligible rides within the approved limits. Any charges outside those limits are the rider’s responsibility.

What if I was charged incorrectly?

If you believe a charge was made in error, contact Lyft Support directly through the app. Lyft handles billing reviews and refund decisions.

How does payment work with Lyft Pass?

Lyft Pass covers eligible rides within approved limits.
If a ride exceeds those limits or falls outside the approved criteria, Lyft may charge the remaining balance to the payment method on file.

It’s important to keep a valid payment method active in your Lyft account.

What payment methods does Lyft accept?

Lyft typically accepts:

  • Major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express)

  • Debit cards

  • Registered prepaid cards

  • PayPal (in eligible areas)

  • Apple Pay or Google Pay

  • Lyft Cash

  • Lyft Gift Cards

Payment options may vary by location.

Lyft does not accept:

  • Cash paid directly to drivers

  • Checks or money orders

  • Offline payment arrangements

All payments must be processed through the Lyft app.

Taking Rides
How do I request a Lyft ride?
  1. Open the Lyft app

  2. Enter your pickup location

  3. Enter your destination

  4. Choose your ride type

  5. Confirm and request

You’ll see your driver’s name, photo, vehicle details, and estimated arrival time once matched.

How do I share my ride details with someone?

During your ride, tap “Share ride details.” You can send a live tracking link so friends or family can follow your trip in real time.

How do I cancel a Lyft ride and will I be charged?

To cancel a ride:

  1. Open the Lyft app

  2. Tap your active ride

  3. Select “Cancel ride” and confirm

If you cancel shortly after requesting, you may not be charged. However, if the driver is already en route or has arrived, a cancellation fee may apply.

Cancellation and no-show fees are not guaranteed to be covered by Lyft Pass and may be charged to the payment method on file.

If your driver cancels the ride, you will not be charged and can request another ride immediately.
