Sometimes, staying in place can be a good thing.
Just ask the over 90 stationary bike riders who gathered January 28th at ReJuv Medical in Waite Park. They raised over $12,800 as part of this year’s “Stuck in Motion” event through United Cerebral Palsy of Central Minnesota.
The event put nine teams to the test, competing through nine race stages ranging from three to 12 miles in length. Teams switched riders throughout each stage in a sprint to the finish line.
Before the event, teams and riders raised pledges for their participation. Day-of, teams were awarded points and raced for prizes for team spirit, funds raised and stage wins, as well as general awareness of Cerebral Palsy.
“Most overall points” went to “The Revolutionary Odditors,” and team captain Kristin Schmidt. “Team Bikelicous,” led by team captain Kat Harrison, raised the most money. Team “Spotting Wheelies” (Spot Rehab), helmed by team captain Katie Malotky, won the Team Spirit Award.

The money raised will help fund assistive technology equipment for a new, grant-funded “Assistive Technology Mobile Experience Center,” – a mobile trailer that will allow those with disabilities in Central Minnesota easy access to cutting-edge assistive technology.
The experience center will also provide opportunities to test the technology and experiment with various combinations and solutions with case managers and healthcare professionals in real time.
These person-centered, real-time, real-life solutions have been completely out of reach for many people.
ConnectAbility of MN hopes to have the Mobile Experience Center on the road by Spring 2018.
